I agree with Anthony Capps, when he said "I am certain it is the most valuable website in regards to educational instruction that I have ever found". This site made me want to go out and buy an iPad, so I did. I wish I had had tools like this to help me learn when I was growing up. I made sure to put this website in my favorite sites to visit, so I can use it in the future.

I didn't know what Mind Maps were, or what they were used for. I found out that Mind Maps are visual diagrams that help students represent words or ideas and can be used in reading and writing, with the iPad. Popplet is a productivity app that also works as a mind mapping tool. Use the app to begin structuring the writing process. I think I would use this app a lot because it can also be used to create graphic organizers, classroom visuals, and to practice sentence combining.

I also like Question Builder and MiniMod Reading For Details. The use of audio clips promotes improved auditory processing for special needs children with autism disorders. This is an amazing website.

Don't Teach Your Kids This Stuff. Please?

Dr.Mcleod uses sarcasm to make his point in his blog

In reading Dr. Scott Mcleod's post, I didn't get it the first time. Why was he telling you don't teach your kids this stuff, when they needed to know this stuff? But, then I got it, he was using sarcasm to get his point across.

Dr. Mcleod say's a lot that teacher's must listen to. Teacher's can not fear teaching technology and must learn technology in order to teach it. If we do not teach our children technology, we would be doing them an injustice, that will hold them back in the world. Student's should be taught to use technology respectively and it should be part of a parents and teacher's job to monitor the site's that they are using.

A lot of people are uneducated about technology, But, we must strive to learn about technology and became comfortable with using it. There is no going back, technology is the way of the future.

Jennifer Chambers Post and Eric Whitacre's Virtual Choir

This members of the choir never met

In watching and listening to this video, it was amazing. I would have never thought of doing this. 185 voices. 243 tracks. 12 countries. All of this coming together without ever being in the same place together in person. It sounded wonderful and the video showed how technology can be used in so many different ways. I loved the video.

Who Is Scott Mcleod?

Dr. Mcleod is an Associate Professor of Educational Leadership at the University of Kentucky. I like the way he describes his self "Associate Professor. Castle Director. Blogger. Catalyst'. I think that says a lot about Dr. Mcleod.

The iSchool Initiative

A brilliant young mind

I agree with Travis Allen when he describes the many positive aspects of the iSchool initiative. Such as it will cost less than paper, pencils, books, and so much more. It would also benefit the environment as he states "by leaving a smaller carbon footprint".

In his interview in the Huff he explains how his age is beneficial to advantage, "Age is my advantage, I am my own target audience and I understand what my generation wants and needs better than the older generations". I agree with Travis, I have an seventeen year old son, and if I need to know something or understand anything about technology, I call on him. A lot of times he'll laugh and say "Mommy, you are suppose to help me with my homework, not me helping you. To me, Travis is right, most teenagers understand technology better than my generation. So, I think the idea of the iSchool of Tomorrow is great.

Teaching in the 21st Century

Teaching in the 21st century with iPads

After watching the video, Teaching in the 21st Century, I thought Kevin was saying that teachers were not needed any longer in the 21st century education. Then I realized, he was actually saying that we must change the way we are teaching.

Until I took EDM 310, I had no idea of how important technology had become in the classroom. Yes, I had seen the new Smart Boards and had even used them a couple of times. But, I had no idea that first grader's were blogging and third grader's were making movies. This was a wake up call for me. I use to go to the movies on Sunday after Church, or come home and watch t.v., but now, I'm on the computer learning to do things that I thought I would never be able to do and my friends can not believe it when I tell them the things that I have learned to do. I know that I still have a lot to learn, but isn't that what technology is about, learning.

Peer Editing

In watching Paige Ellis's Blog Assignment #12, What is Peer Editing, the video taught you how to correctly peer review a classmate's blog. The first step is always compliment the writer and stay positive. The second step is make suggestions that may help the writer and the third step is make any corrections that you see.

In critiquing a fellow classmates blog, I chose not to publically leave them any remarks, but to send them an e-mail. That is the way that I would like to be shown my mistakes, so that is the way I did their's. I think it is great to leave someone a compliment for everyone to see, but when you are critiquing someone, it should only be seen by that person.

A Vision of Students Today

I love the saying in the video "If these walls could talk, what would they say? I think this could go for every classroom in any school. I agree with the video about buying hundreds of dollars for books that I never use and then when you go to have them sold back, you don't even get half of what you paid for them.

I am an older student that does not text a lot or play games on my phone, but see it is a great way to kill time in a big class like History or Biology, because most of the time the student's sitting in the back of a lecture class or either on their computer or phone, playing games. So, why buy books that you are never going to use.

I do like the idea of a teacher knowing my name. I think it makes a student feel better and more relaxed with the teacher, so if they need help with a problem, they would be able to talk to that teacher, a lot of students my feel that a teacher does not care about them, if they don't know who they are. I know this is sometimes hard and even impossible for extra large classes, but as a teacher I will make it a mission for me to learn my student's name.

Personalize Media

This is an amazing video. It is amazing that 107 trillion emails were sent during 2010 and 30 billion pieces of content was shared on Facebook every month. I have a seventeen year old son and I know he is always on the computer, or on his phone.

This video just show's how important technology is in the world and how people depend on it in their lives. It's just amazing to me how things change from day to day in the world with technology. Just like how 48 hours of video are upload to You Tube every minute. I am one that does not stay on the computer a lot. Most of the time I am on the computer is to do some form of homework. But after watching this video, I am going to make myself a goal to spent two hours a day on the computer and to learn something new every week that I can use to help teach students.

Technology in Special Education

This video in Special Education was wonderful and gave so much information about the different apps that are available for teachers to use in the class room. The Zoom Text is something that even I could use on the computor. I also liked the app called My First Words. A lot of kids don't have parent's that can put a lot of time in with their children, because of their work schedule or other things in their lives, so the computor can be a teacher to them.

I never thought that I would ever see or use some much technology in our school systems, but as the video say's "Technology helps us succeed in life", and I believe this statement is true. I love video's where I see children being helped to learn in so many different ways.

Blog Assignment # 3 How the iPad Works With Academics for Austism

In watching the video How the iPad Works With Academics for Austism, I really learned a lot. I have never worked with children that have Autism, but will be working with some children this semester that have learning problems. I really think it was great how the teacher got Corbin to participate in silent reading by using the iPad touch. I knew that audio books were readed all the time, but I didn't know they were used with teaching children with autism.

I would use the laptop also in the class as the teacher did, when someone could not talk. Using the laptop was a great way to understand a student and know what he was learning. It is amazing how much technology is used in our schools today. This video showed how important it is to use technology to communicate with others and the importance of teachers to know about the different ways to use technology in the schools to help students.

Vicki Davis: Harness Your Students Digital Smarts

I agree with this teacher that every student can learn. As being an other student, I have had to learn to transition from the old ways of education (pencil and paper) to the new ways
of education (technology). As we are taught in the class of EDM, it is important to be self
learners, which is needed in every aspect of life.

I think EDM should be taught in all schools to prepare students for what seems to be the future
of the world. In order for the United States school system to improve and keep up in the world,
programs such as EDM, must be available for every student.

Sir Ken Robinson: The Importance of Creativity

I agree with Mr. Robinson that creativity is important in our schools. I also agree that you
must make mistakes sometimes to produce an original idea. As with this class EDM 310, creativity
is a very important factor in your range of success. Children learn in many different ways, so
as teaches we must observe and use their creativity to reap the benefits of their success. All
children have an extraordinary capacity to excel in their own area of expertise. Our jobs as
teachers is to find the area they are interested in and push them to excel in these areas. Let
a child be a child, and see what they can teach us sometimes.

Intelligence can be looked at in many ways. As Mr. Robinson states what is the true meaning of
beintelligence? Who is qualified to define it? I don't think that it was meant for human beings
to be the same in every aspect of life. As a teacher I will focus on how to improve a students
weak areas, but also how to keep pushing for achievement in their performance of their best
subjects.

Mr. Winkle Wakes

\
I agree with the video that a lot of schools I have been in are still teaching the old fashion
way. When I first started back to school after being out for a very long time, I was very scared
of technology. I now know more than I would have ever thought could be possible.

I know the world is changing everyday and I must change too, if I want to teach the children
or they will be teaching me. I think children can teach older adults a lot about technology.
I have a seventeen year old son and it is just amazing to me how much he knows about technology.
Him and several of his friends can make all kind of different beats and do just about anything
on the computor. This shows me how important it is for me to learn these things.

Blog Assignment # 2 Did You Know?

This, to me, means that in learning technology it will be an on-going process that will never
stop. By watching this video and looking at the statistics from one year to several years it
is astounding, to realize how fast information is being processed and delivered in this day and
time.

The fact that India has more honor students than America has kids is just unbelievable to me.
As parents, we try to give our kids everything they want from video games, to name brand clothes
yet we are failing to make them see the importance of a good education and what it will mean
to their future and our country.

Randy Pausch on Time Management

As I was watching this video, I realized that I needed to work on my time management plan. I really liked his question about: Why am I doing this, and what happens if I don't do it? I agree with Mr. Pausch that experience comes from time and it takes time to get experience. I also like his idea of do the ugliest things first. Most people put off things that they do not like to do, so it makes sense to get the things that you don't like to out of the way.

I have a lot of Mr. Pausch articles and they all give very good advice. But, if you don't manage your time wisely you will have problems in college. I am a mother of a seventeen year old, work full time, go to school full time, and am single, believe me time is always a issue with me.
